 Volunteer Application and Information

CASA ICON In 2015 over 65 CASA volunteers in Delaware County stood up for 309 children and spent nearly 5,000 hours working on their cases. However, in the past two years, there has been a 40% increase in the number of child abuse and neglect cases being filed in Delaware County. With the increase of children in the welfare system comes the need to provide more advocate volunteers. We currently have more than 300 children waiting for a CASA Volunteer. Take the First Step: (1) Complete a Volunteer Application  (2) CASA will review the application and initiate an preliminary background check.  (3) Most applicants will then be invited to an interview. (4) Following the interview most applicants are invited to training.  (5) Trainees provide three character references and complete the 30 hours of training and related requirements.

REFERENCES

During training, we ask that you provide three (3) Character References from non-relatives (preferably previous or current employers). These recommendations should be written by individuals who can comment on your ability to serve as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. These qualitative accounts of your competencies and character traits are important in assessing if this is the right kind of volunteer work for you. As we read your character references, we hope to discover specific descriptions and examples illustrating your potential and desire to make a difference in this community. Suggestions: Ask close friends, previous/current employers, or people for or with whom you have done volunteer work. These are people: who are not related to you, who know you well enough to be able to answer questions about your abilities and personal characteristics, with whom you have had positive experiences Sometimes it takes a while for references to send in the questionnaire. So if you want to get a head start, (Download the References Form) *Please make sure your references include their contact information in case of any follow-up questions.
