Courts across the country are beginning to open up to using therapy dogs to reduce stress and make the process less intimidating.
These special therapy dogs are trained for two or more years. Court house dogs help to reduce the stress inherent in the legal system for all individuals that are impacted.
The dogs are used primarily with children who have been victims of sexual assault or witnessed severe domestic violence. The comfort the dogs provide can give children the courage they need to testify about the abuse and neglect they have suffered. Adults can also benefit too from their calming presence and support.
